Are you getting ready to take your driving test at the Chorley driving test centre?

You’re bound to feel nervous on the day, but reading up about the test centre and what to expect will help you feel calmer and more prepared for your driving exam. That’s why we’ve compiled everything you need to know about Chorley test centre, all in one place.

Why choose the Chorley test centre?

Based on Rossall Road, the Chorley test centre is a popular choice for learner drivers across Chorley, Leyland, Euxton, Adlington, Buckshaw Village, and the wider Lancashire area.

It gives drivers a mix of real-world driving conditions with its mix of residential areas, town centre traffic, and larger A roads, so you can put all of the things you’ve learnt in your driving lessons to test.

You’ll experience multi-lane roundabouts and links towards the A6, A674, and M61, giving examiners plenty of opportunities to assess your control, awareness, and decision-making. Plus, it’s a small driving centre so you won’t feel too overwhelmed on the day.

Parking and accessibility

There is public parking at the Chorley test centre, although limited spaces are available, so it’s best to get there early before your test.

There is also wheelchair access into the building.

Toilets

Male and female toilets are available at the Chorley driving test centre, along with disabled toilets.

Pass rates and difficulty

The Chorley test centre has a recent pass rate of around the low to mid-50% range, which puts it just above the national average, making it a great place for drivers to take their test.

That said, the outcome of your test will depend on how well you manage the roads, how safely you respond to hazards, and how consistently you apply what you’ve learnt in your lessons.

While Chorley can feel challenging with its wide mix of roads and town traffic, with the right preparation, these are all manageable. We’re here to help you gain that confidence behind the wheel with our driving instructors at Ashley Neal.

We even provide driving lessons for nervous drivers, so you get all the help and support you need.

Chorley test centre route

The DVSA doesn’t publish official driving test routes anymore, so there’s no fixed route you can learn before the day.

However, there are plenty of YouTube videos you can find online that walk you through the common test routes for Chorley, so you can practise with your instructor before test day.

That way, you’ll have a better understanding of what you’ll face during your test and any weaker areas you can strengthen to help you pass.

You’ll likely encounter areas around the A6, A674, Chorley town centre, residential estates, and larger roundabouts, including routes towards nearby areas such as Euxton and Buckshaw Village.

Our driving instructors will help you prepare for anything that may come up on your test, such as meeting traffic, emerging from junctions, lane discipline, independent driving, hill starts, and parking manoeuvres. Book now to get started.

How to get there

The Chorley driving test centre is located on Rossall Road and is easy to reach from Chorley town centre, the A6, and the M61.

From the M61, head towards Chorley, and follow local routes into the town. From the A6, Rossall Road is only a short distance away. If you’re travelling by car, just pop PR6 0BT into your sat nav, and it’ll take you straight there.

If you’re travelling by bus, the nearest stop is Eaves Lane, which is a short walk from Rossall Road. The number 2 bus runs between Chorley and Blackburn via Brinscall and Abbey Village, stopping at Eaves Lane.

The nearest train station is Chorley railway station, located on Chapel Street, Chorley, PR7 1BS. It’s a bit of a walk from the station to the test centre so you’re best hopping on a bus or getting a taxi.

Tests offered at Chorley Test Centre

  • Car practical driving tests
  • ADI Part 3 tests

If you’re training to become a driving instructor, Chorley may also be available for your ADI Part 3 instructional ability test.

What to expect on test day

On the day of your driving test, arrive a little early so you have time to park, gather your thoughts, and make sure you have everything you need.

You must bring your provisional driving licence with you, or you won’t be able to take your test. If you’ve come with your driving instructor, they’ll park up while you get everything sorted for your test.

Once your test begins, the examiner will:

  • Check your licence and confirm your details.
  • Ask you to complete an eyesight check by reading a number plate from 20 metres away.
  • Ask one vehicle safety ‘tell me’ question before you start driving.
  • Take you out for guided road driving, where you’ll be assessed on your control, awareness, judgment, and ability to deal with everyday traffic situations.
  • Ask you to complete one manoeuvre, such as bay parking, parallel parking, pulling up on the right, and reversing.
  • Ask you to do 20 minutes of independent driving, following road signs, verbal directions, or a satnav.

At the end of the test, you’ll return to the Chorley test centre, where the examiner will tell you whether you’ve passed and explain any faults during your test.

Remember, a small mistake doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve failed. If something doesn’t go exactly to plan, stay calm, refocus, and continue driving safely.
